Their so called "Legal Department"
So I am reading this strand and seeing the dates on here as 2017, 2018, etc. So here is a bit of info, in case you all have not gotten any sound information.
Providian Bank is no longer! Washington Mutual bought them out, and that includes their credit card division, back in 2005. These people are scammers across the board! Even IF you did have a credit card with them, AND owed money to them, for a debt owed this far back, in ANY state, you (and they) have exceeded the statue of limitations to collect on a debt.
The very SECOND you entertain the notion of paying anyone (and i mean any debt period) with a debt past your legal states "collection statue" you are doing what they call "re-aging" your debt. THEN and only then does it become a valid debt again. So, JUST SAY NO, and hang up the phone. Now a bit more education that you can give these "lawyers" that are trying to threaten you by coming to your house, your place of work.
Unless they have a subpoena in their hand they are not allowed to do that, PERIOD! If they are threatening that, ask them what court they intend on placing this "filing" with. When they say they dont have a subpoena, then that is a physical threat to you and you can file, even with just a phone number, to you local police department. A detective can call phone companies and ask for phone number information as well as IP addresses for those who think they are safe making calls from Skype and Google accounts.
Everything is tractable! Now, in 2007 JP Morgan Chase purchased Wamu and then from there assumed all credit cards debts and issues, but the fun thing is that by the time JP got a hold of those accounts most were cut up as a loss because the statue of limitations did not allow them to collect on them any further. THAT is not to say they did not sell those accounts to slimy people like this, but what you are getting is those nasty, dirty, bottom feeder crooks and scammers trying to make you pay on something to make it new so they can legally collect on it! If you can pry as much information out of them, maybe pretend that you are going to pay it and ask where to send the money order, then that just gives you more fire power.
If you are getting the calls on a cell phone, down load a phone call recorder to have even more evidence. When people like this get popped, all their money goes into a victims fund and distributed back to people who paid in.
So, report it here, report it to the fair credit people, to the BBB, report it to your local police. Safe guard yourself because they really do have your information and can try to harm you if they get that nasty.

A caller claiming to be on the behalf of Providian credit card called and threatened to freeze my account if I did not give them 1k+ of a outstanding 3k+ debt right then. But after talking to Providian via your guys website I now have it on recording that they would report such a transaction through a credit agency and try to contact me personally before selling the debt to a third party company.
The only thing is now I have to tell the credit agencies that my SSN may now be compromised.
The original call was threatening and intrusive to a point where they pretty much used scare tactics to extort the money from me. Even went to the point of threatening with court action to get money from me.

Sure, what do you want someone on a PUBLIC message board that has nothing to do with this bank to tell you. If you didn't sign up for it, close the thing down and report it as identity theft.
Quick question, why do you feel the need to post your photo on a bank complaint. POF is down the hall.
